About the Headmaster

A seasoned educator with 35 years of experience, Mr. Mavuka is a dedicated leader with a passion for improving the welfare of teachers and learners. He holds a Master's degree in Mathematics, a Diploma in Personnel Management in Training, and a Diploma in Sports Management, demonstrating his commitment to academic and sports excellence.

As Head of Chaplin High School, he is committed to creating a supportive environment that fosters academic and sporting excellence and personal growth. One of his greatest strengths is his ability to integrate technology into the curriculum, enhancing the learning experience for students and equipping them for success in a rapidly changing world. With a keen eye for detail, he is driven to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the school, making it a beautiful and inspiring place to learn and work.

Brief History

1900

Established in October as Trinity Church School with seven students.

1903

Moved to its current grounds in January with 16 students.

1909

Renamed Gwelo Public School following the appointment of Headmaster Mr. A. McDonald.

1911

The government constructed the country's first school hostel, later named Duthie House.

1923

Opened Maitland House, the first girls' hostel, by Sir Drummond Chaplin; the school was subsequently renamed Chaplin High School.

1937

Juniors and seniors were separated, leading to the establishment of Cecil John Rhodes Primary School.

1953

The Queen's Gate was opened by the Queen Mother on July 7.
